Family Housing Program

Family Housing Program

Volunteers of America’s Family Housing Program in Lexington is a scattered-site, neighborhood-based transitional housing program serving homeless and marginally housed families in Fayette County.

Through a partnership with the Lexington Housing Authority, the program provides 35 housing vouchers for families in need. The vouchers are similar to the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, which allows participants to locate housing with the assistance of the case manager if needed, sign a 12-month lease, and receive case management services from Volunteers of America.

During this 12-month period, the family and Volunteers of America work together to create the family’s service plan, which includes goals such as securing permanent housing, finding employment, enrolling in school, and meeting their children’s needs. The case manager also leads workshops with all program participants, either in a group setting or one-on-one, including Building Self-Esteem, Basic Life Skills, Money Management, and Financial Literacy – Learning and Earning Your Way to Your Goals.
