Needle Exchange Programs

Volunteers of America Mid-States in collaboration with the Louisville Metro Public Health Department is able to offer needle exchange services to our community. Needle exchange services are provided in different areas within the Jefferson County area to ensure their availability to the individuals that need them most.

The overall goal of the initiative is to reduce harm within individuals, their loved ones, and the community as a whole. Harm reduction is defined as is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use.

Needle Exchange location and hours of operation:

Louisville Metro Public Health & Wellness, 400 E. Gray St. (corner of Gray and Jackson Streets.)


11 a.m. until 4 p.m.


1 p.m. until 6 p.m.


1 p.m. until 6 p.m.


3 p.m. until 6 p.m.


11 a.m. until 4 p.m.


11 a.m. until 2 p.m.



Community Needle Exchange Sites:

  • Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3640 River Park Drive (37th and River Park) - Every Tuesday from 9 a.m. - noon.
  • Lake Dreamland Fire Station, 4603 Cane Run Rd. - Every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • 1455 Bicknell Ave. (corner of Bicknell and Taylor) - Every Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Family Health Center Portland - 2215 Portland Ave. - Every Friday from 1 - 4 p.m.
  • Jefferson County East Government Center, 200 Juneau Dr. - Every Monday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
