Help us Bridge the Gap for children, families in need of housing services

Volunteers of America is currently facing the very real challenge of closing the doors to a life-changing, unique program for homeless families we have operated since 1984. Last year alone, the program served 171 children in our community.

Louisville Family Housing Services (LFHS) provides comprehensive residential services to families facing the challenge of homelessness. More than a shelter, this professional and licensed program enlists a holistic approach to provide children and families the assistance they need to overcome homelessness so they never again end up living in their vehicle or out on the streets.

Due to funding cuts equaling 50 percent of the program's operating budget, we are facing our toughest challenge yet. How do we continue operating with little funding while so many families are demanding our services? In September 2016, 58 families were on a waiting list to enter our program. These families are literally living in their vehicles or, if they are lucky, are doubled up on a friend's or relative's couch. No one should live like this.

With more than 30 years of service, this program has returned thousands of families to self-sustainability. We know this program works, as 85% of the families we serve move on to live in their own affordable housing.

Help us keep our doors open and serve homeless children and their parents! We are engaging foundations, corporations and individuals like you to stand together as one strong community and fight for these families. Until we can say there are no homeless families in our community, we must rally together to help bridge the gap so Volunteers of America can continue to provide our services to families in need. Join us at an upcoming Real3 Journey at Louisville Family Housing Services to learn more about how you can help.
