HIV Services expands testing opportunities, awareness efforts in the Louisville area
As part of efforts to reach more at-risk individuals, Volunteers of America's HIV Prevention Services team has expanded testing efforts and are offering new targeted, strategic events to grow awareness and prevention education activities. In addition to the program's standard Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. testing hours, our staff are now offering "Twilight Testing" twice a month to those who work during the day; "Couples Testing" to encourage couples to get tested together; and additional outreach events coinciding with national HIV Awareness Days.
Additionally, through our valued partnerships with area businesses, like Walgreens, we now have testing locations in 10 Kentucky and Southern Indiana counties, making HIV testing and prevention education more accessible for individuals outside of Louisville.
"We have worked to establish strategic partnerships in the new targeted areas by speaking with elected officials, joining various coalitions and being flexible to the needs of different communities," said HIV Prevention Specialist Matthew Darling. "This has opened up doors for us to be involved with local health fairs and community events to ensure our presence is made as often and effectively as possible."
