Linda Rice gives 25 years of service to Study Buddies program, asks you to help children as they head back to school
“Just one moment can be so impactful,” Linda Rice says of her time spent working with children who are living at Volunteers of America’s Louisville Family Housing Services.
Linda, a longtime Volunteers of America donor, volunteer and Study Buddies founding member, first became involved with our Louisville Family Housing Services program in 1992. A friend approached her about an opportunity she thought would be perfect for Linda – helping pilot a tutoring program for school-aged children living at our Louisville Family Housing Services.
Since the beginning of the Study Buddies program, Linda has gathered many cherished memories of the children she has tutored. During the past two decades, she has even met with former students who want to thank her for the time and help she gave them. Linda loves the program, and the Volunteers of America employees and volunteers who give their time.
Twenty-five years later, thousands of children have been through the program, the Study Buddies location has changed, the room has been remodeled and the program continues to evolve each year. What remains unchanged is Linda’s dedication to the children who benefit from this important program.
“There are some very special children who come through these doors. They are eager to learn and they just need somebody to listen to them… and they need school supplies and your help,” Linda shared, reminding supporters that every dollar makes a difference for the children we serve.
