Program Spotlight: Casa Grace Senior Housing
Volunteers of America Mid-States' Casa Grace Senior Housing Community, established in 2010, is an independent-living environment providing safe, affordable housing to low-income adults 62 years and older in Memphis, TN. For residents like Mary Jones, Casa Grace provides not only the secure, welcoming living environment she desires, but also recreation and social activities that make her feel at home.
The activities at Casa Grace range from birthday and holiday parties, cook-outs on the back patio and even line dancing. A favorite of many residents, including Mary, is music time in their community room, coordinated by long-time volunteer, Angela Hayes. Angela has volunteered at Casa Grace since its doors opened, bringing entertainment to the residents through music and arts and crafts. Through her time as a volunteer, the residents at Casa Grace have become like family to Angela.
"They are so loving and understanding with me…they keep me going with my two artificial knees!" Angela said. "I love Casa Grace residents – they are part of my life and my extended family. They all have my number and they know they can call me anytime, day or night. And they do." Angela joked.
In addition to enjoying the activities Angela coordinates, Mary, who has been a resident since 2013, noted how much she loves the staff at Casa Grace.
"The staff here are so wonderful – they go above and beyond making sure the property and residents are well taken care of," Mary said. "I am very happy here at Casa Grace and would not like to live anywhere else."
