LOUISVILLE, Ky. —Mayor Greg Fischer's eighth annual Give a Day of Service event is off to a good start.
Dozens of volunteers met up at Volunteer of America's recovery center on South Shelby Street on Monday morning.
The group worked on the playground, putting in a sidewalk and a new fence, and completed tasks inside.
VOA President Jennifer Hancock said it's a huge help to the organization.
"There are limits to our government grants and contracts, so we don't always have the capacity to do all of these other things that make this program warm and inviting to our clients," she said.
Fischer's Give a Day of Service has become a weeklong event with projects spanning the county for an entire week.
